Switch 2 Console Gets First Major System Upgrade Packed with Useful Additions

This Switch 2 has gotten its first major system upgrade, version 21.0.0, and although it lacks anything completely game-changing, there are numerous convenience improvements to be excited about.

Fresh Software Symbols Introduce Visual Clarity

One of the standout features involves fresh symbols that show above a software cartridge, differentiating whether that software is an original Nintendo Switch version, new Switch, or digital copy.

This addition is being favorably regarded by users, with many applauding it as a "welcome detail" that helps make the UI appear more dynamic.

Improved User Discovery and Voice Chat Features

When searching for users to connect with, the Search for Users You’ve Played With option under Connect with Others now incorporates individuals you've interacted with in your buddies' voice channels.

Concerning GameChat, several improvements have been added:

  • Your software will not enter sleep mode on its own during conversations.
  • A feature to deactivate “Chat Audio Panning” is added.
  • Voice remains active if the console transitions from TV mode to Handheld or stand mode, particularly if this scenario causes the network switching from a ethernet link to a Wi-Fi one.

Efficient Downloads and Input Device Audio Options

When downloading various titles at once, you now have the option to stop all downloads with one button press.

With premium controller players, a new reduced-delay audio mode has been added, allowing you to choose between “Stable” or “Low Latency” options.

Low Latency lowers response time when compared to “Stable” but might be more prone to issues in various Wi-Fi settings.

Virtual Game Card Content Download Improvement

An additional key update allows you to acquire data for a downloadable software even if the “Use Online License” feature is turned off.

This setting is found in the Settings of a digital title when opened via Digital Titles from the main screen.

Further System Enhancements

In addition to these major features, the patch offers various additional enhancements:

  • Ease of access improvements: Audio narration now reads suggested text symbols on the Japan layout, and the narration rate upper limit got raised from 300% to 400%.
  • Screen options: High Dynamic Range is now called to “System Screen’s HDR Output,” and screen size adjustment is easier to adjust.
  • Messages changes: The setting "Platinum Point Notification” was renamed to "Nintendo Switch Online Notification."
  • Device options: Battery control now includes “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” in place of the old “Stop Charging Around 90%” option.
  • Language availability: Thai and Poland's language were added to the selection of supported languages, but they are only usable in games that include the corresponding tongue.
  • System-wide reliability upgrades to improve the gamer's enjoyment.

This software patch marks a strong improvement for the Switch 2 console, offering a variety of practical enhancements that improve the overall user experience.
